Bruins Wrap Action at Texas Invite

AUSTIN, Texas – The UCLA swim team wrapped up action at the Texas Invitational on Saturday afternoon.  Five Bruins advanced to championship finals, which led to top-five finishes by Linnea Mack, Madison White, Katie Grover, and Emma Schanz in their respective events.        
 
Two Bruins posted top-10 finishes in the 1650 Free, led by Campbell with the seventh-best time of 16:16.41.  Campbell out-touched Arizona's Hannah Cox in eighth by .02 seconds.  Sophomore Sandra Soe finished close behind in ninth with a 16:17.58.  Both Bruins' times were NCAA B qualifiers.  Checking in at 16th, senior Michaela Merlihan swam a 16:50.76. 
 
In the 200 Back, White posted an NCAA B qualifying time of 1:54.77 to finish fourth in the championship final. 
 
Three Bruins advanced to the evening session of the 100 Free on Saturday afternoon.  Finishing third in the championship final, Mack swam a 48.31 to hit the NCAA B qualifying mark.  Freshman Isabella Goldsmith posted a 50.27 to place fifth in the consolation final (13th overall), while fellow newcomer Cali Raukar checked in at fourth in the D final (28th overall) with a 51.35. 
 
In the A final of the 200 Breast, sophomore Emma Schanz and freshman Kenisha Liu finished fifth and eighth, respectively.  Schanz swam a 2:11.54, while Liu clocked in at 2:14.16.  Both times were NCAA B qualifiers.  In the B final, junior Sarah Kaunitz placed sixth (14th overall) with a 2:18.01.  Posting a 2:20.62, freshman Lisa Kaunitz finished fourth in the D final (28th overall).   
 
In the last individual event of the evening, Grover finished fourth in the championship final of the 200 Fly.  The junior swam an NCAA B qualifying time of 1:56.06.  In the consolation final, freshman Amy Okada swam the third-best time (1:59.30) to finish 11th overall.  Junior Marie-Pierre Delisle posted the top time in the C final (1:59.88) to round out the Bruins competing in the event.
 
Closing out the Texas Invitational with a top-five finish, the Bruin quartet of Goldsmith, Mack, Liu, and White swam the fifth fastest time in the 400 Free Relay.  Finishing just outside the top 10, the Bruin B squad—Kaunitz, Raukar, Okada, and Kaunitz—placed 11th at 3:25.39.        
 
Next up, the Bruins head to Honolulu to face the University of Hawai'i on Dec. 18 at 1 p.m. PT.
