FAR HILLS, N.J. - Freshman Bethany Wu and 2016-2017 UCLA signee Mariel Galdiano have been named to the 2016 United States Curtis Cup Team, as announced by the United States Golf Association (USGA) on Tuesday.
The 2016 Curtis Cup Match will take place June 10-12 at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club in Enniskerry, Ireland near Dublin. The Match is a biennial international women's amateur golf competition between eight-player teams from the USA and Great Britain and Ireland (GB&I). It consists of six foursomes (alternate-shot) matches, six four-ball matches and eight singles matches over three days of competition.
Wu is in the middle of her freshman season and came off her best collegiate finish at this month's Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge with a T-10 (+3, 216) showing. She has two other top 15 finishes at the Annika Intercollegiate (12th, -4, 212) and the Pac-12 Preview (T-15, +4, 223).
Outside of UCLA, Wu has had a lot of success in the match play environment. She reached the semifinals of the U.S. Women's Amateur last summer and was second at the 2015 Women's North and South Amateur and the Canadian Women's Amateur Championship. Wu finished the calendar year first in the Golfweek junior rankings. She was also on the winning side of the 2014 Wyndham Cup, the '14 Junior Ryder Cup and the 2013 Junior Solheim Cup.
Galdiano, who is ranked sixth in the Women's World Amateur Golf Ranking, signed her National Letter of Intent with UCLA in November. She won a pair of tournaments in 2015, the Joanne Winter Arizona Silver Belle Championship and the Canadian Women's Amateur Championship. She also earned runner-up finishes at the '15 Junior PGA Championship and '15 Polo Golf Junior Classic. Galdiano, who is a three-time Rolex All-American, has competed in the 2011, 2013 and 2015 U.S. Women's Opens.
The Bruins had three players participate in the 2014 Curtis Cup, Alison Lee and Erynne Lee for the United States and Bronte Law for GB&I. The 2016 Curtis Cup Match will mark the seventh straight time at least one Bruin has represented either side: (Tiffany Lua, Law - 2012; Stephanie Kono, Lua - 2010; Tiffany Joh - 2008; Jane Park - 2006 and 2004).
