
Bruins Leap Out to Lead at Bruin Wave

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The fifth-ranked Bruins leapt out to a 10-shot lead following two rounds of the Bruin Wave Invitational at the San Luis Obispo Country Club. UCLA is at even par after 36 holes on Monday, producing a 1-over 289 in the morning session and a 1-under 287 in the afternoon group.
Individually, freshman Lilia Vu is in the lead by one shot over three golfers, including her teammate junior Bronte Law. Vu is at 3-under (141) through 36 holes.
Round one concluded with the Bruins holding a two-stroke lead. Vu was tied for the individual lead after firing a 3-under 69 in her first 18 holes. She made birdies on the third, sixth, 10th and 11th before her lone blemish on the scorecard, a bogey on the 14th. Law was T-10 in her first 18 holes at even-par 72. After making bogeys on the first and third, she came back with birdies on the seventh and 16th holes. Freshman Bethany Wu was in a tie for 14th after her first round at 1-over 73. She had a birdie on the seventh to go with bogeys on the second and 15th.
Senior Louise Ridderström shot a 3-over 75 in round one to put her in a tie for 23rd. She birdied the seventh hole to go with four bogeys. Sophomore Erin Choi shot a non-team scoring 10-over (82). Starting on the fourth, she made birdies on the seventh, 13th and third, but also had eight bogeys, a double and a triple. Sophomore Aliea Clark was the top Bruin among the three individuals at 5-over 77 (T-41). Her lone birdie came on the 10th to go with six bogeys. Junior Hadas Libman and sophomore Lydia Choi were each tied for 63rd at +9 (81). Libman's only birdie came on the 12th, as she also had three bogeys, two doubles and a triple. Choi made six bogeys and a triple in her round.
Law was the low scorer for the Bruins in the afternoon at 2-under 70 to put her at -2 (142) for 36 holes. After bogeying her first and third holes, Law rebounded with an eagle on the seventh and then made birdies on the 10th, 11th and 13th before dropping a shot on #16. Ridderström had the next-best round for the Bruins in the afternoon, shooting four shots better than her morning round with a 1-under 71. She is tied for 13th through 36 holes at +2 (146). Starting on the third, she birdied holes #7 and #11, as well as her two closing holes, #1 and #2, with three bogeys (#9, #12, #15). Vu maintained the overall lead with an even-par 72 in her second 18 holes. She eagled the seventh and made birdies on #2 and #11 to go with bogeys on #4, #13, #14 and #16.
Wu recorded a 2-over 74 in the afternoon and is tied for 15th at +3 (147). Her lone birdie was on the second, her opening hole, to go with three bogeys. Erin Choi had a non-team scoring 83 (+11) and is tied for 81st (+21, 165). She made a birdie on the 13th, but also had nine bogeys and a triple. On the individual side, Clark is tied for 40th at +11 (155). She was 6-over (78) in her second round with a birdie on the 14th and seven bogeys. Lydia Choi had two birdies, on the second and the seventh, to go with seven bogeys. She shot a 5-over 77 and is tied for 58th. Libman posted a 6-over 78 in round two and is tied for 66th (+15, 159). She had three birdies on the third, sixth and seventh to go with seven bogeys and a double.
The Bruins' scoring fivesome of Erin Choi, Wu, Ridderström, Law and Vu will go in that order starting at 8:30 a.m. off the first tee. Lydia Choi and Clark go off the first at 7:30 a.m., while Libman begins on the 10th tee at 7:35 a.m. Live scoring will be available here.
