LOS ANGELES - Sophomore Johanna Grauer tossed her second-consecutive, complete-game shutout on Wednesday, striking out seven to tie a season high, as the 13th-ranked Bruins blanked CSUN, 6-0, at Easton Stadium.
Grauer, who has 13 straight scoreless innings, improved to 12-8 on the season. She retired the first nine batters of the game, striking out one in each of her last six innings, including two in the fifth. The Bruins (26-11-1) had six hits as a team from half a dozen players.
After three and a half scoreless innings, the Bruins got on the board in the fourth without the benefit of a hit. Junior Delaney Spaulding and senior Mysha Sataraka opened the inning with walks and moved up a base on a sacrifice from sophomore Madeline Jelenicki. Freshman Brianna Tautalafua followed with a sacrifice fly to left to bring in Spaulding with the game's first run.
In the sixth, the Bruins got some insurance runs with a five-spot. With one out, Sataraka doubled to left and was pinch-run for by freshman Imani Johnson, who scored on a double to left by Jelenicki to make it 2-0. After a Tautalafua walk, with freshman Stevie Wisz coming in to run, freshman Paige Halstead doubled to right-center to plate Jelenicki to give the Bruins their third run.
Freshman Zoe Shaw then came off the bench with a two-run double to right-center, as Wisz and Halstead came home to make it 5-0. Following a sacrifice by junior Gabrielle Maurice, senior Allexis Bennett singled to center to plate Shaw and make it 6-0.
Grauer closed out CSUN (23-18) with a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh, as the Matadors only got three runners to second base the entire game.
The Bruins host Oregon State in a three-game series this weekend at Easton Stadium (Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m.). Advanced tickets are no longer available for Saturday and Sunday's games. Around 100 tickets will be made available each day on a first-come, first-serve basis starting 2 1/2 hours prior to first pitch.
