Bruins Stay Alive with 3-2 Thriller

GULF SHORES, Ala., -- Fourth-seeded UCLA (20-7) put an end to a three-game losing skid with a hard-fought 3-2 win over eighth-seeded Stetson (28-9) in the contender's bracket of the 2016 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship on Friday afternoon at Gulf Place Beach.
The Bruins will face the loser of No. 2 USC and No. 3 Pepperdine tomorrow at a time to be determined.
The Bruins scored the first point on court five when Reily Buechler and Julie Consani got their first win as a new duo, defeating Stetson's Alexa Richardson and Jamie Walsh in straight sets, 21-16, 21-14.
Stetson tied it up at 1-1 on court three when Emily Carroll and Kaylee Anderson defeated Izzy Carey and Elise Zappia, 21-17, 22-20.
UCLA's freshman duo of Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara put the Bruins up 2-1 with a straight-set win on court one over the Hatters' Sara Putt and Vendy Strakova, 21-15, 21-18.
Stetson tied the match up at 2-2 on court two when Madison Tormey and Kristin Lund defeated Ivey Schmitt and Kamila Tan, 21-18, 21-19.
That left things to be decided on court four where UCLA's Jessyka Ngauamo and Zana Muno defeated Stetson's Madison Akins and Samantha Harris, 21-14, 12-21, 15-12.
