June 20, 2016 | Swimming & Diving
Both sophomore Maria Polyakova and freshman Eloise Belanger recently dove for their respective native countries in Senior National Championships.
Polyakova, competing for her native Russia, finished third in the 3-Meter on June 9 in Penza. She scored 306.70, 292.85 and 312.30 in the preliminaries, semifinals and final, placing 8.5, 9 and 17 points behind the winner in each list. The top two were named to the Russian Olympic Team, however, the Russian Diving Federation has opted to continue its evaluation of all three divers. Polyakova will attend the Federation's training camp July 5-17. Once those two weeks conclude, the RDF will finalize its list and name its team members for the Rio Olympics.
Bélanger, a native of Canada, dove in Toronto and won the preliminary in the 3-Meter with a score of 290.30. However, she dropped to fourth in the event final (287.85). Her score is good enough to re-card her for the Canadian National Team. She will be invited to the Grand Prix Meet (July 15-17) in Bolzano, Italy. Bélanger advanced to the finals in the Platform, finishing fourth (283.90).
