Bruins Ready for U.S. Olympic Trials

OMAHA, Neb. -ย A total of 12 former, current and future Bruins are at the CenturyLink Center Omaha this week for the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials.
Leading the list of Bruin alums areย Noelle Tarazonaย and 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Kim Vandenberg. Tarazona will swim in the 100 and 200 Butterfly and the 200 Individual Medley, while Vandenberg will compete in the 100 Fly. Recently graduatedย Arlyn Upshawย will also swim in the 200 IM.
Among the current Bruins, a pair of juniors,ย Linnea Mackย andย Madison White, will take part in four and three events, respectively. Mack will swim in the 50 and 100 Freestyle, 100 Fly and 100 Backstroke, while White will go in the 200 Free and 100 and 200 Back.ย Katy Campbell, who was a member of the 2014-2015 U.S. National Team and sat out the 2015-2016 UCLA season to train for the Trials, will swim in the 200, 400 and 800 Free.
Sophomoreย Katie Groverย will be in the 100 Free and 100 Fly. A pair of freshmen,ย Emma Schanzย andย Sandra Soe, will also swim. Schanz has four events, the 100 and 200 Back, the 200 Breaststroke and 200 IM, while Soe will go in the 400 Free.
A trio of incoming freshmen will also swim in the U.S. Olympic Trials. Isabella Goldsmith will go in the 200 and 400 IM, Kenisha Liu will be busy with six events (50, 100 and 200 Free, 100 Fly, 200 Breast and 200 IM) and Amy Okada will swim in the 100 and 200 Fly.
Freshmanย Caroline McTaggartย qualified for the 50 and 100 Free and 100 Fly, but will not swim due to an ankle injury. In addition, a member of the UCLA diving squad took part in the U.S. Olympic Diving Trials on Tuesday. Juniorย Annika Lenzย placed 21st in the Platform with a score of 213.75.
