Ting Wen Quah Heading to Rio

Singaporean and UCLA alum Ting Wen Quah punched her ticket to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, announced National Team head coach Sergio Lopez at the Olympic flag presentation ceremony last weekend.ย  Quah is one of three swimmers representing Singapore next month.

Two-time CSCAA All-American Quah currently holds the UCLA records in the 200m freestyle (1:44.98) and the 100m butterfly (51.89).ย  She ranks fifth on the All-Time list for the 50m freestyle with a time of 22.52.ย  She also holds the Spieker Aquatics Center Record in the 200 freestyle (1:46.11).ย  Quah was the Bruins' Most Valuable Swimmer in 2013 and 2014.

On the international circuit, Quah swam three record-breaking performances at the Singapura Finance 47th Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championships in March.ย  She posted a 1:59.75 in the 200m freestyle to break her own meet record and also swam a 2:13.72 in the 200m butterfly. ย On the final day of competition, she clocked a record-setting 25.54 to win the championship final of the 50m freestyle.ย  In December 2014, Quah won the women's 100m freestyle at the Singapore National Swimming Championships with a time of 56.38.

In total, Quah met "B" qualification times in five eventsโ€”50m, 100m, 200m freestyle and 100m, 200m butterflyโ€”before earning a universality spot on the team.ย  This is Quah's second trip to the Olympic Games, having debuted at Beijing 2008 in the 100 freestyle and 400 individual medley.ย  Her brother, Zheng Wen Quah, also earned a spot on the Singapore Olympic Team.ย
