Newcomer Hutchins Wins Maine Match Play

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Incoming transfer Matt Hutchins won his second major Maine State Golf Association title of the summer on Thursday, claiming the Maine Match Play Championship at Brunswick Golf Club.
Hutchins, who golfed at Chico State as a freshman during the 2015-2016 season, defeated Will Kannegieser 1-up in the championship. Three of Hutchins' five matchups went to the 18th hole, with him claiming 1-up victories each time (round of 16 and quarterfinals). He also posted a 5 and 4 win in the round of 32 and a 4 and 3 triumph in the semifinals.
Last month, Hutchins won the Maine Amateur Championship at York G&TC. Born in Portland, Maine, the Sudbury, Mass. native played in 11 tournaments as a freshman at Chico, recording a 74.0 scoring average. Hutchins had a pair of top 10s and four top 20s
