No. 7 Bruins Hold Serve at Home, 5-2

LOS ANGELES -- The No. 7 UCLA men's tennis team moved to 2-0 Saturday with a 5-2 victory over UC Santa Barbara at Sunset Canyon Tennis Courts. After losing the doubles point to the Gauchos, the Bruins captured five of six singles matches to secure the overall victory.
In the No. 1 doubles match, the UCSB team of Simon Freund and Morgan Mays won its doubles match versus Bruins Martin Redlicki and Evan Zhu for the first decision of the day. Then with a tight 7-5 finish, Gauchos Nicolas Moreno de Alboran and Anders Holm defeated Joseph Di Giulio and Austin Rapp to clinch the point.
UCLA came out of the break with a sense of urgency, as Rapp (6-1, 6-3 vs. Holm) and Di Giulio (6-2, 6-3 vs. Chase Masciorini) won in straight sets to take a 2-1 advantage. UCSB's Freund countered with a 6-4, 7-5 win versus Evan Zhu to leave three matches to decide the outcome.
Logan Staggs defeated Cody Rakela 6-3, 7-6 to give UCLA the edge and leave the top two singles matches. After dropping the first set to Moreno de Alboran, UCLA's Gage Brymer powered back to seal the deal for the Bruins, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. Redlicki then closed out singles play with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 win over Mays.
The Bruins will return to action Jan. 28, when they host New Mexico at Sunset Canyon Tennis Courts as part of the ITA National Indoors Qualifying Tournament. Play begins at 2:00 p.m.
