No. 6 UCLA Improves to 4-0, Qualifies for ITA Indoors

LOS ANGELES -- The No. 6 UCLA men's tennis team capped ITA Kick-Off Weekend with a 4-0 victory over Lamar University at Sunset Canyon Tennis Courts Sunday. The win qualified the Bruins for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in February.
Doubles play went the distance Sunday, as the Bruins and Cardinals split the first two matches. Following a UCLA win by Joseph Di Giulio and Austin Rapp over Lamar's Michael Feucht and Sebastian Santibanez (6-3), the Cardinals' duo of Juuso Latinen and Logan Powell topped the Bruins' Logan Staggs and Gage Brymer on Court 3, 6-2. In the end, the clinching point was claimed by UCLA's pair of Martin Redlicki and Evan Zhu, who held off Lamar's Jeandre Hoogenboezem and Nikita Lis, 6-4.
Redlicki and Zhu carried the momentum over from their doubles win, as they secured the next two points on the singles courts. Redlicki defeated Lis, 6-1, 6-1, while Zhu handled Hoogenboezem, 6-2, 6-3. Down on Court 6, Rapp clinched the win for the Bruins, as he defeated Powell in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
With the win, the Bruins secured their spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, which will be played Feb. 17-20 in Charlottesville, Va. That will end a UCLA road trip that will begin Saturday, Feb. 4, when it faces No. 5 Georgia (7:00 a.m. PT) in Gainesville, Fla as part of the Pac-12/SEC Showdown.
