ERIN, Wis. - Junior Patrick Murphy and freshman Eddy Lai are each tied for 14th following 1-over 73s during the first round of the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills at the Erin Hills Golf Course. As a team, the Bruins are in eighth place after a 12-over 300.
Murphy, playing as an individual, made four birdies, three bogeys and a double, while Lai also had four birdies with five bogeys. Senior Tyler Collier is one shot back of that duo at 2-over (74), putting him in a tie for 22nd. He birdied the third, 12th and 16th holes to go with three bogeys and a double. Junior Cole Madey is tied for 37th at +4 (76), making birdie on his opening hole, the first, as well as the 12th, adding six bogeys. Sophomore Hidetoshi Yoshihara is tied for 52nd (+5, 77). He birdied the 14th and had six bogeys. Freshman Devon Bling shot a non-team scoring 8-over 80 and is tied for 71st. He made a pair of birdies on #7 and #12 and 10 bogeys.
The Bruins begin round two on Monday at 9:50 a.m. CT/7:50 a.m. PT off the 10th tee in the order of Bling, Yoshihara, Madey, Collier and Lai. Murphy will tee off #1 at 9:30 a.m. CT/7:30 a.m. PT. Live scoring will be available here.
