ERIN, Wis. - UCLA returns to the Midwest for its next tournament, playing in this week's Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills at the Erin Hills Golf Course, the site of the 2017 U.S. Open. The tournament runs from Sunday through Tuesday on the par-72, 7,722-yard layout.
The scoring fivesome for the Bruins will be senior Tyler Collier, junior Cole Madey, sophomore Hidetoshi Yoshihara and freshmen Devon Bling and Eddy Lai. Junior Patrick Murphy will be playing as an individual. Sunday's tee times have UCLA going off the first tee at 10:40 a.m. CT/8:40 a.m. PT in the order of Lai, Bling, Collier, Madey and Yoshihara. Murphy will begin his opening round on #10 at 11 a.m. CT/9 a.m. PT. Live scoring will be available here.
Joining the Bruins and host Marquette in the 15-team field are #14 Texas A&M, #23 Florida State, #24 Ole Miss, #26 Northwestern, #38 Purdue, #45 Iowa State, #50 Augusta, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, South Florida, Texas El Paso, UC Davis and Wisconsin.
The Bruins opened the 2017-2018 season at the rain-shortened Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo (Sept. 18). UCLA was tied for third (-3, 565) after 36 holes of golf before the final round on Sept. 19 was washed out. Yoshihara was the top Bruin finisher with a T-6 showing (-4, 138), while Madey also finished in the Top 10 (T-9, -3, 139). Lai, who was playing as an individual, tied for 20th (E, 142). Collier tied for 43rd (+4, 146) and Bling and Murphy each tied for 49th (+5, 147).
UCLA is back at Erin Hills after no tournament was held a year ago due to the U.S. Open. The Bruins were third (-7, 857) at the 2015 event, which was won by alum Jonathan Garrick. Murphy tied for 19th (+2, 218), while Madey tied for 40th (+11, 227). UCLA has been in the Top 3 in the last three Erin Hills Intercollegiates, winning the event in 2014 and finishing second in 2013.
