ALPHARETTA, Ga. - The 22nd-ranked Bruins are in a tie for third after 18 holes at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate following an opening round of 6-under 282 on Friday. UCLA is in a four-way tie with #11 Wake Forest, #30 Duke and #39 UNLV, three shots back of #31 Texas (-9) for second place and five behind 18-hole leader #3 Oklahoma State (-11).
Sophomore Hidetoshi Yoshihara, who has a pair of Top 10s in two tournaments this season, is tied for sixth following a 4-under 68. Starting on the 10th hole, he began with four pars before making back-to-back birdies on #14 and #15, finishing his first nine with another birdie on #18. Yoshihara parred the first five of his second nine before making birdies on #6 and #8, with his lone blemish coming on his last hole (#9). The sophomore is two strokes back of a three-way tie for first.
Freshman Eddy Lai is tied for 12th after an opening-round 69 (-3). He birdied #17, with a bogey on #13, before making four birdies on his second nine on #1, #4, #7 and #9 to go with a bogey on #5.
Senior Tyler Collier is tied for 38th, posting an even-par 72 on Friday, He made four birdies on #13, #16, #5 and #9 and four bogeys. Freshman Devon Bling recorded a 1-over 73 and is tied for 44th. He also notched four birdies on #12, #1, #5 and #7 to go with five bogeys. Junior Cole Madey is tied for 61st (+3, 75), tallying a birdie on #5, two bogeys, a double and 14 pars.
Round two for the Bruins starts on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. ET/6 a.m. PT off the first tee in the order of Bling, Madey, Lai, Collier and Yoshihara. Live scoring will be available here.
