UCLA Earns 1-0 Road Win at Oregon State

October 05, 2017 | Men's Soccer

CORVALLIS, Ore.Milan Iloski scored his first career goal in the second half, while Kevin Silva recorded six saves to collect the shutout as the UCLA men's soccer team earned a 1-0 win at Oregon State on Thursday from Lorenz Field. The Bruins earned their first win in Pac-12 play this season and improve to 4-5-0 overall.

"Every game at Oregon State presents its challenges," said head coach Jorge Salcedo. "I'm happy that the guys found a way to win the game. Often times when a team loses a player early in a match it sometimes makes it even more difficult to break them down. The second half we were able to open them up in both wide channels and it helped us. Milan [Iloski] scored his first goal for UCLA and hopefully more will come for him and the team as the season continues."

UCLA held a 21-13 advantage in shots, including 8-7 in shots on goal, while the teams matched each other in corner kicks at 7-7.

The Bruins scored the lone goal of the match in the 69th minute as Iloski made a move to the middle of the field and ripped a shot out of the reach of the keeper that curled inside the left post.

Silva registered his second shutout of the season with his six saves, the second most by the sophomore keeper this season.

Oregon State (3-7-0, 0-2-0) played most of the match a man down when Jalen Markey was issued a red card in the 17th minute as he took down Brian Iloski who had a clear path to the goal.

UCLA was unable to capitalize with a goal in the first period despite holding a 10-5 lead in shots, but the Beavers did hold a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal in the half. Oregon State nearly had the opening goal of the match in the 21st minute off a corner kick but Anderson Asiedu made a team save on the right post to keep the match scoreless.

The Bruins continue their road trip on Sunday when they travel to Washington to face the Huskies at 5 p.m. PT. The match will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
