ATHENS, Ga. โ€“ A Bruin captured the 1-Meter championship at the Georgia Fall Invitational for the second year in a row Friday, as Eloise Belanger posted a final-round score of 320.45 to come out on top at the Gabrielsen Natatorium. Ciara Monahan registered a score of 287.75 for a runner-up finish.

Belanger controlled the competition throughout, totaling four scores of 51.25 or more in the preliminary round. No other diver reached that number once in the round. She left the preliminary round with a score of 310.90. Monahan proved consistent, posting scores ranging from 47.50-49.40 over her final four attempts to head into the final round in second place at 277.60. Alice Yanovsky and Madeline Russell made it a Bruin quartet in the final.

The final round was much of the same, as Belanger scored 52.80 on her 403B and went on to post five dives of 51.25 or more. The highest score of the competition was her 303B, a Reverse 1 ยฝ Somersault Pike that went for 57.60. Monahan was again closest, tallying a score of 287.75 over her final six dives of the day. A Forward 2 ยฝ Somersault Pike (105B) earned the senior her best score of the day at 55.90. Yanovsky also finished in the Top 10 with a score of 246.60โ€”good for eighth. Russell finished 13th at 221.65.

At last year's Georgia Invite, Maria Polyakova posted a win in the 1-Meter for the Bruins, while Belanger came in second. Monahan finished fourth. Polyakova's win marked the second win of an eventual Bruin sweep.

Day 2 at the Georgia Invite will take place Saturday with the 3-Meter competition. Belanger will look to repeat as the champion in the event and is toย be joined by teammates Monahan, Russell, Traci Shiver and Yanovsky.
