BRUINS HOST KENTUCKY, TRAVEL TO CATHEDRAL CITY
The fifth-ranked Bruins entertain #22 Kentucky in a Wednesday doubleheader at Easton Stadium starting at 4:30 p.m. before traveling to Cathedral City for four games this weekend. At the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic I, UCLA will face Cal Poly (5:30 p.m.) and UCF (8 p.m.) on Friday, UC Davis (3 p.m.) on Saturday and Liberty (2 p.m.) on Sunday.
BRUINS IN THE POLLS
UCLA moved up three spots to fifth in this week's ESPN.com/USA Softball rankings and up two positions to sixth in the latest USA Today/NFCA poll. Of the other 11 teams in the Top 12 of both polls, the Bruins have nine of them on their schedule. UCLA was also first in the Pac-12 preseason coaches poll, earning three first-place votes and 59 points.
NEWS AND NOTES
The Bruins are 19 wins away from 1,800 as a program ... through the first week of the season, UCLA leads the nation in home runs with 13 and is also second in batting average (.478), runs per game (9.60) and slugging (.841), fifth in on base percentage (.519), 11th in earned run average (0.47), 12th in fielding (.992), tied for 22nd in double plays turned (3) and tied for 24th in doubles (9) ... junior Kylee Perez is tied for the national lead in doubles with four ... the Bruins led the nation in double plays last season with 45. In each of the last two years, UCLA has set a new record for twin killings after posting 28 in 2015 ... UCLA had 17 comeback victories last season ... the Bruins were 22-0 last year when leading after five innings and 23-0 when up after six.
BRUINS VERSUS THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS
UCLA leads the all-time series with Kentucky 5-2, but the Wildcats won the last two matchups in May 2014 to advance to the Women's College World Series ... the Bruins have won 21 straight against Cal Poly and hold a 28-3 edge versus the Mustangs all-time ... UCLA has won all four meetings against UCF, including last February in Cathedral City ... the Bruins have also claimed all seven matchups versus UC Davis, including a 9-1, five-inning win in Westwood last March ... UCLA defeated Liberty 3-0 in the only meeting between the two teams, which took place in 2002 NCAA Tournament.
