LONG BEACH, Calif. - The 10th-ranked Bruins recorded a pair of 8-0, five-inning victories on Friday at the Louisville Slugger Invitational, defeating Eastern Michigan and Longwood at the Long Beach State Softball Complex.

In game one, the Bruins (17-5) had nine hits from seven players, as senior Delaney Spaulding and junior Madeline Jelenicki each had a pair. In the circle, junior Selina Ta'amilo (5-0) struck out five in five innings of one-hit ball. She retired the first nine batters of the game before surrendering a leadoff infield single in the top of the fourth. Ta'amilo would then set down the last six of the contest, striking out a pair in the first and the fifth.

In the bottom of the first, the Bruins scored twice, as Spaulding led off with a walk, and two outs later, came home on a two-run homer to left by Jelenicki, her seventh of the year to tie for the team lead.

UCLA added one more in the third. Spaulding led off with a double to center, moved to third on a single up the middle by junior Kylee Perez and scored when Perez stole second and the throw down went into center field.

In the fifth, the Bruins scored five times to invoke the mercy rule. Perez led off with a walk, moved to third on a single to right by sophomore Paige Halstead and scored on an Eastern Michigan (8-8) throwing error. After a Jelenicki single to left and a hit by pitch of freshman Bubba Nickles, Ta'amilo singled to center to bring in freshman Jenna Crawford, who was running for Halstead, and Jelenicki to make it 6-0. A single to left by sophomore Brianna Tautalafua scored Nickles to plate the Bruins' seventh run, and two outs later, Spaulding ended things with a single to center to drive in Tautalafua to end the 8-0 victory.

In game two, the Bruins (18-5) had 12 hits from seven different players. Perez tied a career high with a 4-for-4 game, while Jelenicki and Spaulding posted two-hit affairs for the second time on the afternoon. Junior Johanna Grauer (6-1) struck out three in four shutout innings, allowing one hit and two walks. She had 1-2-3 innings in the second and third. Redshirt freshman Rachel Garcia struck out all three batters she faced in the fifth.

The Bruins scored seven times and sent 12 to the plate in a 26-minute top of the first inning. Spaulding led off with a single to left-center, Perez reached on a bunt single and a Halstead single to right scored Spaulding to make it 1-0. Jelenicki followed with a single to left to bring in Perez with the Bruins' second run. Then Tautalafua made it 5-0 with a three-run homer to center, her sixth of the season. A spate of illegal pitches for Longwood (7-11) then brought in the sixth run, as Nickles walked and scored after three illegal pitches with Garcia up. With Garcia reaching on a walk and moving to second on another illegal pitch, Crawford came in to run, scoring on consecutive passed balls to make it 7-0.

The Bruins scored the magical eighth run in the fifth with a two-out rally. With sophomore Zoe Shaw at first, Spaulding singled up the middle and Perez doubled to center to plate Shaw to make it 8-0.

The Bruins play twice more in Long Beach on Saturday, facing Boston University at 9 a.m. and the host 49ers at 11:30 a.m. Live audio and stats will be available at UCLABruins.com.
