UCLA's Varsity Eight Finishes First at Clemson

The UCLA women's rowing program's varsity eight crew raced to a first-place finish in the B final of the Clemson Invitational on Lake Hartwell on Sunday morning, concluding the two-day racing event.
In addition, the Bruins' second varsity eight and varsity four crews each recorded third-place finishes in races of seven boats in the B final competition. UCLA's second varsity four finished fourth in its six-boat race.
UCLA's varsity eight posted a time of 6:33.454, less than one full second ahead of Central Florida (6:34.350) and narrowly pulling past Duke (6:34.468) and Oklahoma (6:34.525). Rounding out the V8+ competitors in that race were Tennessee (6:38.375), Louisville (6:39.885), Columbia (6:41.703) and Pennsylvania (6:46.374).
UCLA's second varsity eight finished its race in a time of 6:52.107, behind first-place Washington State (6:46.229) and second-place Oklahoma (6:46.692). The Bruins crossed the finish line ahead of Tennessee (6:54.404), Gonzaga (6:55.417), Louisville (6:57.257) and Central Florida (6:58.614).
The Bruins' varsity four posted a third-place finish with a time of 7:43.090. Washington State won that race with a time of 7:38.204, while Minnesota (7:38.834) finished second. The Bruins' V4+ crew finished the race ahead of Gonzaga (7:43.273), Pennsylvania (7:44.790), Columbia (7:49.129) and Syracuse (7:50.529).
UCLA's second varsity four finished fifth in its six-boat B final, crossing the finish line in 8:03.030. Syracuse won the heat with a race time of 7:55.000, while Gonzaga (7:56.341) and Columbia (8:01.916) finished second and third, respectively.
In the two-day cumulative point scoring, UCLA finished ninth out of 21 schools with a score of 84, just behind seventh-place Duke and eighth-place Indiana. Texas finished in first place in the final point totals with a score of 130, followed by Ohio State (125), Wisconsin (117), Washington State (105), Virginia (105) and Syracuse (100).
The Bruins will return to action against USC in the annual crosstown showdown on Sunday, April 30, on Ballona Creek in Marina del Rey, Calif.
