TUCSON, Ariz.ย -- No. 2 UCLA (28-3) advanced to the 2017 Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Championships semifinals with a 4-1 win over the hosts and No. 3 Arizona (16-9) on Thursday evening atย Bear Down Beach on the campus of Arizona. The Bruins will face No. 1 USC (32-0) at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, April 28, live on the Pac-12 Network.
UCLA got the first point on the board on court four as senior Jordan Anderson and sophomoreย Izzyย Carey defeated Arizona's Brooke Burling and Mia Masonย in straight sets, 21-13, 21-19. The Bruin duo improved to 19-1 on the year (18-1 on court four).
The Bruins went up 2-0 on court one as sophomores Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara defeated the Wildcats' McKenna Witt and Madison Witt in straight sets, 21-19, 21-18. The twins improved to 26-4 this season, all on court one, and 2-0 this season against the Witt twins.
Court three was once again the deciding match as UCLA's tandem of junior Elise Zappia and freshman Torrey Van Windenย defeated Arizona's Hailey Devlin and Sam Manley in straight sets, 21-14, 24-22. The Bruin duo improved to 18-2 on the year (17-2 on court four).
Arizona claimed its first point on court five as Natalie Anselmo and Halli Amaro defeated the Bruins' freshman pair of ย Lily Justine and Savvy Simoย in straight sets, 21-16, 25-23. The relatively new-formed pair dropped to 3-2 on the year.
The Bruins' duo of freshman Madi Yeomans and senior Kamila Tan rallied for a three-set victory over the Wildcats' Olivia Hallaran and Olivia Macdonald, 21-23, 21-10, 15-13. The UCLA duo improved to 20-10 on the year (19-10 on court two).
