TAIPEI - Sophomore Mariel Galdiano won individual gold at the World University Games, while also helping the Red, White and Blue to team gold.
Galdiano won the individual title with a three-round score of 8-under 208 to finish in first by four strokes. She opened with a -5 (67) in round one on Thursday, Aug. 24, following that up with an even-par 72 in round two and a 3-under 69 in round three on Saturday, Aug. 26.
Galdiano's score was counted all three days in the team competition, as along with Emilee Hoffman and Andrea Lee, Team USA had a team score of 421 (top two of three scores each day counting) for the three days, three shots better than the host country, Chinese Taipei.
The rising sophomore is no stranger to wearing the Red, White and Blue, as she represented Team USA last summer at the Curtis Cup (2-2 in match play) and the Women's World Amateur Team Championship (T-29, +8, 296).
