Junior Mariel Galdiano of the UCLA women's golf team was named the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 24-30.
Galdiano posted the first victory of her UCLA career at the Golfweek Conference Challenge on Sept. 24-26, completing the win with her best collegiate round ever, a 7-under 65. She finished at 13-under 203 to win by two strokes over teammate Patty Tavatanakit. Galdiano fired a front-nine, 7-under 29, making an eagle-2 on the par-4 sixth to go with five birdies, adding two birdies and two bogeys on her back nine. She was better in each round, posting a 2-under 70 in round one and a 4-under 68 in round two. Galdiano helped the Bruins to the team victory, as UCLA set a new 54-hole school record (32-under 832) and won by 33 shots. The 32-under total tied for the fifth-lowest, 54-hole score in NCAA history, while the 17-under 271 final-round score tied for the fourth lowest in NCAA history.
This is Galdiano's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week of the season and of her career and UCLA women's golf's second consecutive honor after Tavatanakit won last week's award.
