Galdiano Wins Stanford Intercollegiate for Second-Straight Victory

STANFORD, Calif. - Another year, another Bruin taking home a victory at the Stanford Intercollegiate, as junior Mariel Galdiano won her second-straight tournament on Sunday to share medalist honors. As a team, the Bruins tied for ninth (+22, 874), shooting a 12-over 296 in their final trip around the Stanford Golf Course.
Galdiano, who won the Golfweek Conference Challenge last month, finished at 8-under 205 following a 1-over 72 on Sunday. She shared medalist honors with Pepperdine's Hira Naveed. With a shotgun start beginning on the seventh, Galdiano made a birdie on her first hole, as well as No. 9, but also had four bogeys. Another birdie on the third would keep the junior in a share of the lead, as she eventually earned her second-career win.
With Galdiano's victory, the Bruins have had a medalist in six-straight Stanford Intercollegiates, joining Patty Tavatanakit (2017), Bronte Law (2014-2016) and Alison Lee (2013).
Junior Clare Legaspi tied for 20th at 2-over 215, posting a 1-over 72 in her final round .She made a birdie on the 11th and two bogeys. Senior Beth Wu tied for 56th (+12, 225), shooting an 8-over 79 on three birdies (No. 12, 15 and 18), eight bogeys and a triple. Sophomore Vera Markevich tied for 80th (+23, 236), recording a 2-over 73, which was nine shots better than her previous round. She made two birdies on No. 15 and 5, two bogeys and a double. Freshman Phoebe Yue tied for 84th (+25, 238), shooting a 10-over 81 with a birdie on the first hole, five bogeys and three doubles. Senior Lilia Vu and sophomore Patty Tavatanakit did not play at the Stanford Intercollegiate as they prepare for the LPGA Q-Series (Oct. 24-27 and Oct. 31-Nov. 3) in North Carolina.
Up next for the Bruins is the Nanea Pac-12 Preview (Nov. 5-7) at Nanea Golf Club in Kohala, Hawai'i.
