Bruins Finish Fall Season in Hawaii

KOHALA, Hawaii - The sixth-ranked Bruins wrap up their fall schedule this week at the Nanea Golf Club, taking part in the Nanea Pac-12 Preview. The three-day, 54-hole tournament runs from Monday through Wednesday at the par-73, 6,372-yard layout.
The starting five for the Bruins will be senior Beth Wu, juniors Mariel Galdiano and Clare Legaspi, sophomore Vera Markevich and freshman Phoebe Yue. Monday's first round begins at 9:30 a.m. PT/7:30 a.m. HT with a shotgun start. The Bruins tee off on holes No. 6-10 in the order of Yue, Markevich, Wu, Legaspi and Galdiano. For the second tournament in a row, UCLA will be without senior Lilia Vu and sophomore Patty Tavatanakit, who both just finished up play at the LPGA Q-Series.
Joining the Bruins and host Hawaii in the 12-team field are the other 10 Pac-12 squads, No. 1 USC, No. 10 Arizona State, No. 11 Washington, No. 13 Stanford, No. 14 Arizona, No. 35 Oregon, No. 45 Colorado, No. 48 Oregon State, No. 49 California and Washington State (rankings courtesy of Golfstat as of Oct. 30).
Bruin individuals have won each of the team's first three tournaments, as Tavatanakit won the ANNIKA Intercollegiate (Sept. 17-19) and Galdiano claimed the Golfweek Conference Challenge (Sept. 24-26) and the Stanford Intercollegiate (Oct. 19-21). As a team, UCLA finished first at the Golfweek Challenge, setting a school record with a 54-hole total of 32-under 832. The Bruins were second at the ANNIKA (-26, 838) and tied for ninth at Stanford. UCLA has been under par in seven of its nine rounds, including all three second rounds, where it is a combined 20-under.
Galdiano is a combined 23-under in her three tournaments, with 21 of that coming in her back-to-back victories. She is under par in six of her nine rounds, including a school-record, 9-under 62 in her second round at Stanford (finished at 8-under 205). Galdiano, who tied for 18th at the ANNIKA, closed the Golfweek Challenge with a 4-under 68 and a 7-under 65, finishing at 13-under 203. The junior is a combined 16-under in her second rounds.
Legaspi has a pair of Top 20 showings in three events, tying for seventh at the Golfweek Challenge (-3, 213) and tying for 20th at Stanford (+2, 215). In each of those tournaments, she opened with 4-under rounds, posting a 68 at the GCC and a 67 at Stanford. Legaspi also tied for 45th at the ANNIKA. Wu tied for 15th at the ANNIKA (-3, 213), closing that event with a 2-under 70 and a 1-under 71. She also tied for 40th at the GCC and tied for 56th at Stanford. Wu has four under-par rounds in her nine total rounds. Playing in their first events of the season at Stanford, Markevich tied for 80th (+23, 236) and Yue tied for 84th (+25, 238).
