
UCLA Ends Up Fifth at Georgia Fall Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. โ The UCLA swim and dive team wrapped up competition at the Georgia Fall Invitational on Saturday, ending the three-day meet in fifth place overall with 425.5 points. ย
The morning session saw UCLA log its best results of the weekend, with Bruins finishing top-four in both the 1650 free and platform diving.
Senior Sandra Soe earned a B cut time of 16:20.87 in her first mile outing of the season, ending up in fourth place overall. Junior Lisa Kaunitz also finished top-10, coming in at 16:58.89 for 10th place.
Senior Traci Shiver capped off her weekend by placing second overall in platform, recording an NCAA Zones-qualifying and season-high score of 241.00. Senior Madeline Russell placed ninth with a score of 197.15 to give the Bruins a pair of top-10 finishers on tower.
The Bruins started off strong in the afternoon finals session, with freshman Mara Newman swimming a B cut time of 1:53.79 to take 10th place in the 200 back. Abriana Howard (1:58.29) and Jennifer Lathrop (1:59.92) finished 4-5 in C Final and 20-21 overall.
Junior Kenisha Liu recorded a B cut time of 49.13 to lead the group of four Bruins to swim in the B Final of the 100 free. The winner of the B Final, Liu was ninth overall. Claire Grover (49.74, 11th), Maisie Jameson (50.04, 13th), and Ella Kirschke (50.39, 16th) rounded out the Bruins' contingent in the B Final.
Senior Emma Schanz recorded a fifth-place finish in the 200 breast, swimming a B cut time of 2:10.97 for her second NCAA B-Standard of the weekend. In the B Final, Emily Lo logged a time of 2:13.97, meeting the cut line for a B-Standard. She was third in the B final and 11th overall.
In the 200 fly, Amy Okada was the Bruins' top finisher at 1:59.36, the second time this year she's broke the two-minute barrier.
UCLA wrapped up the meet with a fifth-place time of 3:18.86 in the 400 free relay. The Bruins' A Team included Kenisha Liu, Claire Grover, Maisie Jameson, and Delaney Smith.
The Bruins are off for the rest of 2018, next competing on Jan. 7 when they host San Diego and Harvard at Spieker Aquatics Center.
