LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men's basketball team handed Loyola Marymount its first loss of the season on Sunday night, defeating the Lions, 82-58, in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom.

Two Bruin players recorded double-doubles, with sophomore guard Jaylen Hands contributing 17 points and 10 assists, and Moses Brown adding 12 points and 10 rebounds. Hands' double-double was the first of his career, and Brown's was his fourth.

Sophomore guard Kris Wilkes joined Hands as the game's leading scorer with 17 points. Off the bench, sophomore guard Chris Smith was just two points shy of a double-double, recording eight points and a career-high 10 rebounds.

"I think sustained is a good word," said Steve Alford, The Michael Price Family UCLA Men's Head Basketball Coach. "There weren't any lapses or any big runs that they threw at us, maybe five or six points at the most. I thought our guys did a good job of attacking the basket, getting a layup or getting fouled. We did a good job of getting to the free throw line. We fouled a little bit too much in the second half. I felt the zone was really good the last eight or nine minutes of the game."

UCLA (6-2) led Sunday's game from start to finish, jumping out to a 9-3 lead in the first half. The visiting Lions (8-1) missed nine of their first 10 shots. The Bruins held a double-digit lead for most of the half, leading by as many as 13 points (39-26) after a Prince Ali three-pointer. UCLA led at halftime, 39-27.

The Bruins maintained a double-digit lead in the second half from the 16-minute mark on. LMU closed to within 10, 60-50, with nine minutes to play after a layup by Jeffery McClendon, but UCLA used an 8-2 run in which it went 6-for-6 from the foul line to extend the lead back up to 16 with seven minutes remaining. Back-to-back dunks by Wilkes and Hands and an and-one by Wilkes gave UCLA a 21-point lead, 75-54. The Bruins pushed the lead to 22 points after another and-one by Wilkes with 3:16 to play and continued to make free throws in the final minutes to end with their final winning margin of 24 points.

Dameane Douglas led Loyola Marymount with 11 points and was joined in double-digit scoring by Petr Herman, who added 10. The Bruins held the Lions to just 29% shooting from the field.

UCLA will return to action at home against Notre Dame on Saturday, Dec. 8. Game time is 7:30 p.m. (PT) in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. UCLA's game will be nationally televised on ESPN2.
