No. 4 UCLA Tops Portland, 7-0

LOS ANGELES โ The No. 4 UCLA men's tennis team breezed past visiting Portland Friday, 7-0, in the Bruins' return home from the ITA Team Indoor Championships.
Newly-ranked by Oracle/ITA, Evan Zhu defended the top court with a straight-set win to clinch the match.
Zhu also had success in doubles action, as he joined Austin Rapp in defeating the Pilots' pair of twins Mathieu and Pierre Garcia, 6-4, 6-4, to take the first decision of the day. Tom Hann and Alex Wallace were able to pull Portland even, though, topping Ben Goldberg and Connor Rapp on Court 3, 6-4, to make the Court 2 match a winner-take-all proposition. Maxime Cressy and Bryce Pereira of the Bruins would ultimately be able to continue their success from Indoors, though, clinching the opening point with a 6-4 victory over Carlos Donat and Jamie Fisher.
Following a second-set retirement by Wallace on Court 4, Connor Hance put the Bruins up 2-0. Goldberg soon made that 3-0 with a straight-set win over Jamie Fisher of the Pilots on Court 6, 6-3, 6-2. Then, on the top court, Zhu posted mirror-image sets to take care of Mathieu Garcia, 6-4, 6-4.
With the match already in hand, UCLA's Cressy fought through a second-set tiebreak to defeat Carlos Donat on Court 3, 6-1, 7-6 (4). No. 60 Logan Staggs went to a third-set versus Pierre Garcia after dropping a first-set tiebreak, but was able to rebound for a 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-4 win. Austin Rapp had a three-setter of his own on Court 5, where he held off Hann to conclude the match, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.
UCLA will host crosstown rival No. 9 USC Tuesdayย at 2 p.m. The nonconference match will mark the first and only time the Trojans visit LATC this season.
