LONG BEACH, Calif. - The third-ranked Bruins ran the gamut of outcomes to extend their winning streak to 24 games, posting an 11-0, five-inning mercy-rule victory over #16 Ohio State before eking out a 6-5 win against #21 Long Beach State on Sunday at the LBSU Softball Complex.

In game one versus Ohio State (13-2), the Bruins posted their fourth mercy-rule victory of the weekend, recording only five hits, but drawing 10 walks. Redshirt freshman Aaliyah Jordan and freshman Briana Perez each had two-hit contests. Senior Selina Ta'amilo went the distance in the circle to move to 4-0, striking out two in a two-hit shutout. She had 1-2-3 innings in the third and fourth.

UCLA picked up a run in the top of the first without the benefit of a hit, as Briana Perez walked, senior Kylee Perez reached on an error and Jordan walked to load the bases. One out later, redshirt sophomore Rachel Garcia lifted a sacrifice fly to center to bring in Briana to put the Bruins up.

In the second, the Bruins added two runs on one swing of the bat, as junior Zoe Shaw walked with one out and came home on a two-out homer by Briana Perez. The shot to center was the freshman's fourth of the season to increase the lead to 3-0.

UCLA sent 14 batters to the plate in the fifth, scoring eight times. Jordan led off with a double to left-center, junior Brianna Tautalafua walked and sophomore Bubba Nickles was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Walks to junior Taylor Pack, scoring Jordan, and to Shaw, scoring junior Imani Johnson, who was running for Tautalafua, made it 5-0. Three more runs came across without a hit, as sophomore Jacqui Prober walked to force in junior Jenna Crawford, who was running for Nickles, Briana Perez was hit by a pitch to bring in Pack and Shaw came in on a wild pitch to make it 8-0.

Kylee Perez reached on a fielder's choice to short to load the bases again for the Bruins, with a Jordan single to right bringing home Prober to bring the lead to 9-0. Briana Perez would be retired at home for the second out, but a walk to Tautalafua loaded the bases again for Garcia, who singled to center to plate Kylee Perez and junior Stevie Wisz, who was running for Jordan, to make it 11-0.

In game two versus host Long Beach State (19-7), the Bruins notched 10 hits from five different players, as Jordan went 4-for-4 and Briana Perez and freshman Kinsley Washington each recorded two hits. Garcia improved to 10-0 in the circle, striking out seven in seven innings and giving up five runs, seven hits and three walks.

Long Beach State jumped ahead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Taylor Rowland, but the Bruins responded with five in the top of the fourth. Jordan led off with a single and Tautalafua was hit by a pitch, with Crawford coming in to run. After a Garcia sacrifice and a Nickles hit by pitch loaded the bases, freshman Julie Rodriguez walked to force in Jordan to even the score. A sacrifice fly to left off the bat of freshman Malia Quarles plated Crawford to put the Bruins up by a run, while a single to left from Washington brought in Nickles to give UCLA a 3-1 lead. Briana Perez followed with a single to center to score Rodriguez and Washington to put the Bruins up 5-1.

A Nichole Fry sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth made it 5-2, but Jordan got the run back to lead off the fifth, homering to left-center. Her fourth bomb of the season would make it 6-2 and prove to be the game winner.

Long Beach State scored three times in the sixth on an RBI single by LT Torres and a two-run double from Fry, but Garcia would toss a 1-2-3 seventh to finish off the 49ers.

The Bruins begin Pac-12 Conference play next weekend, traveling to Eugene for a three-game series at #5 Oregon. The series starts on Friday, March 16 at 5 p.m. All three games will air on Pac-12 Networks.
