SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -ย Redshirt sophomore Rachel Garcia and freshman Briana Perez combined for seven of the Bruins' 11 hits, while freshman Holly Azevedo went the distance in the circle, as #3 UCLA defeated Utah by a score of 7-3 on Friday at Dumke Family Softball Stadium.

UCLA improved to 30-2 overall and 6-2 in Pac-12 play, while the Utes fell to 17-14 and 2-6 in league action.

Garcia recorded the second, four-hit game of her career, while Perez went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI triples, which marked the 15th time in school history a UCLA player had two triples in one contest. Six different Bruins had a hit.

Azevedo moved to 10-0 on the season, striking out five in her first seven-inning complete game of her career. She allowed three runs (two earned), six hits and one walk, recording a 1-2-3 inning in the fourth.

Just like Thursday, the Bruins scored twice in the first inning, as senior Kylee Perez bunted for a one-out single, moved to second on a Utah throwing error on the same play and scored on a double to right by redshirt freshman Aaliyah Jordan. After Jordan moved to third on a grounder to the right side by junior Brianna Tautalafua, Garcia singled through the 5-6 hole to plate Jordan to make it 2-0.ย

The Bruins extended the lead to 3-0 with a two-out rally in the second, as freshman Kinsley Washington singled to center, stole second and scored on a triple to left by Briana Perez.

Utah would tie the score with two in the second on a two-run double by Chandler Walter and one in the third when Julia Noskinย scored on an error.

In the fourth, Briana Perez gave the Bruins the lead back, as junior Paige Halstead led off with a walk, and was pinch-run for by junior Imani Johnson, who scored two outs later after another Perez triple, this time to left-center, to make it 4-3.

In the fifth, one swing gave the Bruins three runs. Tautalafua walked to start off the inning, and was pinch-run for by sophomore Jenna Crawford, who moved to second on a single to left by Garcia, with both scoring on a home run to straightaway center by sophomore Bubba Nickles, her fourth of the season, to bring the lead to 7-3.

The Bruins look for their second Pac-12 sweep in a row on Saturday at 12 p.m. PT. The game will air live on Pac-12 Networks Los Angeles.
