LAS VEGAS - The 18th-ranked Bruins begin a two-tournament, week-long stay in Sin City on Monday at the Southern Highlands Collegiate at the Southern Highlands Golf Club. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played from Monday through Wednesday at the par-72, 7,374-yard layout.
The starting fivesome for UCLA will be senior Tyler Collier, junior Cole Madey, sophomore Hidetoshi Yoshihara and freshmen Devon Bling and Eddy Lai. Live scoring for each day's 18 holes will be available here. The Bruins will start at 10:40 a.m. off tee #1 on Monday in the order of Lai, Bling, Collier, Madey and Yoshihara.
Joining the Bruins and host #29 UNLV in the 15-team field are #4 Oklahoma, #7 Florida, #8 Alabama, #9 Texas Tech, #17 USC, #19 Illinois, #23 Pepperdine, #32 TCU, #33 BYU, #38 Northwestern, #48 UCF, SMU and Washington (Golfweek rankings as of March 2).
UCLA is coming off a victory at the Southwestern Invitational (Feb. 26-27), winning by 20 strokes to post its first tournament triumph since 2015. The Bruins were the only team under par at 8-under 856, shooting a 9-under 279 in their final round. Of the Bruins' 20 team rounds, 13 have been under par, with season bests of 20-under 268 in round two at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational (Oct. 29-31) and a 19-under 269 in round three at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate (Feb. 16-18). UCLA has finished in double figures in red numbers for three tournaments (Makai Invite, -37, 827; Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate, Oct. 20-22, -18, 846; Desert Intercollegiate, -16, 848). The Bruins have finished in the Top 4 in all seven tournaments, placing second at the Marquette Intercollegiate (Oct. 1-3) and tied for second at The Farms Invitational (Feb. 12-13).
Yoshihara is second on the team with a 71.4 scoring average, with 11 of his 20 rounds seeing him in red figures, including six in the 60s. The sophomore has four Top 10s, finishing third at the Southwestern Invitational (-3, 213) thanks to an opening-round 71 (-1) and a final-round 69 (-3). This spring, Yoshihara closed the Desert Intercollegiate with a season-low, 7-under 65, while at The Farms, he tied for second at 3-under 213, going under par in his final two rounds. His best finish in the fall was a T-3 showing at the Marquette Intercollegiate (-2, 214).
Madey leads the team with a 71.2 scoring average, also recording 11 of his 20 rounds under par, including seven in the 60s. The junior has finished in the Top 20 in five straight tournaments, including a fourth-place showing at the Southwestern (-1, 215). He was under par in all three rounds at the Desert Intercollegiate to tie for seventh (-8, 208), opening and closing the tournament with 3-under 69s. Madey also tied for 12th at The Farms (+3, 219) to open the spring slate, while finishing seventh with three under-par rounds to close the fall at the Makai Invite (-14, 202).
Collier holds a 72.2 scoring average, recording a pair of Top 10s, eight under-par rounds and four in the 60s. He is coming off back-to-back, ninth-place showings, tying for ninth at the Southwestern (+1, 217) and finishing solo ninth at the Desert Intercollegiate (-7, 209). Collier also tied for 20th at The Farms (+5, 221). In his last four final rounds, the senior is a combined 14-under, including a 6-under 66 in his last trip at the Desert Intercollegiate.
Bling is coming off his best finish of the season, a tie for fifth at the Southwestern Invitational (E, 216). He closed the tournament with a 3-under 69, his sixth under-par round. Five of his six under-par rounds have been in the 60s, as he shot a season-best, 7-under 65 in the opening round of the Makai Invitational, where he tied for 16th (-8, 208). Bling opened the spring with a T-17 at The Farms (+4, 220).
Lai has a quartet of Top 20 showings in his first season, recording nine under-par rounds and five in the 60s. His season-best finish was a T-12 at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate (-5, 211), where he opened the tournament with a pair of under-par rounds. Lai also tied for 16th at the Marquette Intercollegiate (+5, 221) and tied for 18th at the Southwestern Invitational (+6, 222).
