#4 Bruins Complete Sweep at #11 Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. -ย Senior Kylee Perez went 4-for-4, hitting a solo home run and scoring three times, while redshirt sophomore Rachel Garcia struck out nine in 4 1/3 innings of shutout relief to go with a three-run homer, as the fourth-ranked Bruins finished off a three-game sweep at #11 Arizona with a 10-3 win on Sunday at Hillenbrand Stadium.
The Bruins improved to 37-3 overall and 12-3 in Pac-12 play, while the Wildcats fell to 27-12 and 6-9 in league action.
Garcia moved to 13-1 on the season, limiting the Wildcats to just two hits. She had 1-2-3 innings in the fourth and sixth, striking out three in the fourth and fifth. Senior Selina Ta'amilo started and gave up three runs and three hits in 1 2/3 innings. Freshman Holly Azevedo got the last three outs, striking out one and giving up one hit in the seventh. The Bruins had 10 hits from seven different players.ย
The Bruins got off to a quick start in the top of the first, as Perez recorded a one-out single, redshirt freshman Aaliyah Jordan reached on an error and Garcia brought in both on a three-run homer to right-center, her team-best eighth jack of the season.ย Arizona tied the score with a solo homer in the first by Ashleigh Hughes and a two-run shot in the second from Ivy Davis.
UCLA netted those three runs back in the third. Freshman Briana Perez was hit by a pitch to open the inning, moved to second on a Kylee Perez single up the middle and scored on a double to left-center by Jordan to make it 4-3. Following an intentional walk of Garcia to load the bases, junior Brianna Tautalafuaย singled up the middle to bring in Kylee to up the lead to 5-3. A bases-loaded walk to sophomore Bubba Nickles would plate Jordan to make it 6-3.
In the fourth, Briana Perez reached on a bunt single with one out, Kylee Perez doubled to left and a Jordan sacrifice fly to center increased the lead to 7-3. In the sixth, Kylee Perez posted her fourth hit of the game, a solo homer to center, her third of the season, to make it 8-3.
The Bruins tacked on two more runs in the seventh. Garcia drew a leadoff walk, and one out later, moved to third on a Nickles double to right-center. Redshirt senior Jelly Felix followed with a single to center to drive in Garcia to make it 9-3. One batter later, Nickles came home on a wild pitch to bring in the Bruins' 10th run.
UCLA entertains #1 Washington next weekend at Easton Stadium. The series starts on Friday, April 20 at 5 p.m. on Pac-12 Networks.
