SHOAL CREEK, Ala./SCARSDALE, N.Y. - The Bruins are well represented in USGA events both last week and this upcoming week, as freshman Patty Tavatanakit was the low amateur at the U.S. Women's Open, while junior Lilia Vu and sophomore Mariel Galdiano will be representing the Red, White and Blue at this weekend's 40th Curtis Cup Match.
Tavatanakit, the 2018 WGCA and Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, was the only amateur to finish under par at last week's U.S. Women's Open (Shoal Creek Golf Club), while also being just one of nine players to finish under par for the four-day tournament. Tavatanakit fired four rounds of 70-73-72-71 to tie for fifth (-2, 286). It was the second straight year that Tavatanakit played in the U.S. Women's Open.
Vu, the 2018 WGCA Player and Pac-12 Golfer of the Year, and Galdiano, a WGCA Second Team All-American and All-Pac-12 First Team selection, will start play at the Curtis Cup Match (Quaker Ridge Golf Club) on Friday with four-ball and foursomes. Action continues on Saturday with four-ball and foursomes and concludes on Sunday with singles. Action will be televised on FS1 (8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m. on Sunday). Galdiano represented the United States at the 2016 Curtis Cup, going 2-2. Vu will be competing in her first Curtis Cup Match.
