LOS ANGELES, Calif. โ The UCLA Swimming & Diving program has been honored by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America with a team Scholar All-America Award, while seven Bruins received individual academic recognition from the CSCAA.
To receive a Scholar-All America Award, teams must have a combined grade point average of 3.0 or higher. UCLA registered a 3.37 GPA as a team, one of eight Pac-12 schools to be honored.
On the individual side, senior Katie Grover and junior Sandra Soe each were named First Team Scholar All-Americans while freshman Emma Cain, senior Marie-Pierre Delisle, freshman Allison Goldblatt, junior Traci Shiver, and freshman Alice Yanovsky each received honorable mentions.
With the award, Grover became a CSCAA Scholar All-American for the fourth time in her four-year career. Meanwhile, Delisle and Soe each picked up their third career selections.
To earn First Team status, student-athletes must achieve a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and compete at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable mentions maintained a 3.50 or higher GPA while recording a "B" time standard or competed at an NCAA Regional or Zone Diving qualifier.
Earlier in the school year, 16 Bruins were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Team, headlined by first teamer Delisle. The swim & dive program received seven individual awards at UCLA's 2017-18 Scholar-Athlete Banquet and helped the department reach a record 351 student-athletes on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
