
Bruins Fall to No. 3 Stanford, 156-78

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA swim and dive team took on No. 3 Stanford at the Spieker Aquatics Center on Friday afternoon, falling 156-78 in a dual meet.
The Bruins had multiple high-level swims throughout the day, particularly by Claudia Yovanovich, Jada Duncan, and Rosie Murphy.
The Bruins kicked off the meet with a strong showing in the 400 medley relay, placing second in the event with a time of 3:35.04. To kick off the relay, Yovanovich opened the relay with a 51.67 time in the 100 backstroke, setting a new facility record in the discipline.
In the second individual event of the day, Duncan came in second place in the 50 free, with a time of 22.09, while Yovanovich continued her strong Friday with a third place in the event, touching the wall in 22.61.
Murphy earned UCLA's first individual event win of the day in the 400 IM, taking the top spot in 4:06.83. The senior beat the field by over one second, as the second-place finisher touched the wall in 4:08.09.
Duncan added another impressive swim for the Bruins in the 100 fly. The freshman touched the wall in second place and finished in a new school record time of 51.06.
Yovanovich continued her stellar day on Friday with another event win for the Bruins in the 100 back. The sophomore touched the wall in 52.17 to win the event.
As for the 100 free, Gizem Guvenc came in second place, and finished in 49.28. In the 500 free, Applejean Gwinn took second place in the event, finishing in 4:49.01, just behind Emily Thompson of Stanford, who won the event in 4:48.84.
Murphy and Sarah Bennetts tallied second-place finishes in the 100 IM and the 100 breaststroke, respectively, to cap the individual events. The Bruin 400 free relay group of Duncan, Anna Wetteland, Guvenc and Alexis Schaffer combined to take second in 3:16.36 to wrap up Friday's meet.
