Murphy Sets New School Record in Dual With Cal

LOS ANGELES โ€“ The UCLA swim and dive team took on No. 7 Cal in a dual meet at the Spieker Aquatics Center on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Golden Bears 179-120.

Rosie Murphy had a spectacular day for the Bruins, setting a school record in the 200 back, while also winning multiple events on the day.

The Bruins opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The quartet of Claudia Yovanovich, Sarah Bennetts, Alexis Schaffer and Gizem Guvenc combined to finish in 1:36.78.

Murphy took second place in the third event of the day, the 200 free. The senior touched the wall in 1:45.85 to earn second place.

AS for the 100 back, Yovanovich and Fay Lustria finished in second and third for the Bruins. Yovanovich finished in 52.31, while Lustria touched the wall in 53.11.

Duncan earned the Bruins first individual event win of the day in the 50 free. The freshman won the event in 22.17 to earn her second individual event win on the weekend. She followed that performance with a second-place showing in the 100 free, where she finished in 48.86.

Murphy then took first in the 200 back, in a new school record time. Murphy, who held the old school record in the event, lowered her mark to 1:51.59, and beat the field by over six seconds. UCLA's Erica Jaffe took second in the event, touching the wall in 1:57.86.

Ashley Kolessar came in third place in the 500 free. The junior finished the race in 4:52.15.

In the 100 fly, Duncan earned her third top-three showing of the day. Duncan took second place in the event, touching the wall in 52.63.

Murphy took her second individual event win of the day in the 200 IM, the final individual event of the day. The senior won the race in 1:55.18, and beat the next-closest competitor by over three seconds.

The Bruins wrapped up the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 free relay. The Bruin group of Yovanovich, Duncan, Bennetts, and Anna Wetteland combined to finish in 1:29.22.
