HOME SWEET HOME
After 12 days on the road, No. 7 UCLA (2-1-1) returns to the friendly confines of Wallis Annenberg Stadium for a non-conference matchup against Pepperdine (1-4-0) on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7pm. The Bruins have not played at home since Aug. 17, when they beat Long Beach State 1-0 in the final seconds of the game.
BRUINS RETURN FROM NATIONAL TEAM DUTY
UCLA All-Americans Hailie Mace and Jessie Fleming missed last week's games in Florida while with their respective national teams. Mace, who also missed the Bruins' game at Penn State, earned her second career cap while playing 16 minutes in the USA's 3-0 win over Chile on Aug. 31. Fleming did not play in Canada's 1-0 win over Brazil Sept. 2.
SCOUTING THE WAVES
Pepperdine has had a tough start to the 2018 season, going 1-5 and scoring just two goals. Three of the Waves' losses, however, have come against teams currently in the Top 25 - No. 4 USC, No. 16 and No. 25 Texas Tech. The Waves are led by Hailey Harison, who was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy watch list, and fellow preseason All-WCC honorees Joelle Anderson and Brielle Preece.
SERIES WITH PEPPERDINE
UCLA leads the overall series with Pepperdine, 18-3-3. Last year's matchup in Westwood saw the Waves tie the No. 1 Bruins to break UCLA's seven-game win streak to start the season. UCLA is unbeaten in its last eight games against Pepperdine, whose last win came in 2010 (1-0 in Los Angeles). The Bruins' last win over the Waves came in 2016 (3-0 in Malibu).
ROAD SPLIT
Playing without first-team All-Americans Hailie Mace and Jessie Fleming, UCLA split its three road matches on its 12-day road trip, first beating No. 3 Penn State, 2-1, on Aug. 25. The Bruins tied No. 22 Florida, 0-0, on Aug. 31 before falling to No. 4 Florida State, 4-1.
REYES NETS FIRST
Freshman midfielder Maricarmen Reyes made her first touch in the Florida State game count, scoring her first collegiate goal in the first half. Reyes had just entered the game 90 seconds earlier when she volleyed a clearance into the lower left corner from 15 yards out. The Mexican Under-20 National Team member also made an impact in the Florida game, providing a spark off the bench with four shots.
MICAH MOVES INTO TOP 5
Junior goalkeeper Teagan Micah has moved into UCLA's all-time Top 5 in career saves with 168 after adding six more to her total in the Florida State game. She is just nine saves away from catching No. 4 CiCi Peterson, who made 177 saves from 1998-2001. With 36 career wins, Micah is one away from tying Chante' Sandiford for fifth in career wins, and she is already in the Top 5 with 20 career shutouts.
MAINSTAYS
With UCLA's lineup in a state of flux early due to national team assignments, only five players have started every game this season - goalkeeper Teagan Micah, defenders Kaiya McCullough and Karina Rodriguez and midfielders Marley Canales and Delanie Sheehan. Micah, McCullough and Rodriguez have played in all 380 minutes.
NEW HOME
After playing home games at Drake Stadium from 2000-17, the UCLA soccer teams have moved into a new home, Wallis Annenberg Stadium. The stadium, which seats 2,145, is located at the previously-named North Athletic Field, where UCLA played selected home games from 1967-99. The new stadium was made possible thanks to a $5 million lead gift from the Annenberg Foundation. The just-completed first phase of the stadium project includes grandstand seating and press box on the west side, a Daktronics LED video board and Musco Sports lighting. Future phases of the stadium project may include expanded stadium seating, a training room, student-athlete locker room, coaches' locker rooms, meeting spaces, ticketing space, and a new press box. UCLA won its first game in the new stadium in dramatic fashion on Aug. 17, with Hailie Mace scoring the game-winning goal with two seconds remaining in a 1-0 win over Long Beach State.
