SCOUTING THE CARDINAL
Stanford enters the week ranked No. 2 in the United Soccer Coaches poll with a 12-1-0 overall and 5-0-0 Pac-12 record. The Cardinal is unbeaten in 34 straight Pac-12 games, its last conference loss coming on Oct. 6, 2016 at USC. Reigning MAC Hermann Trophy winner Catarina Macario leads the nation in scoring with 18 goals, seven game-winning goals and 46 points. Stanford is the national leader in goals (50), assists (52) and points (152). Defensively, the Cardinal has not allowed a goal in 428:42 minutes of play and has shut out the last four opponents. Stanford head coach Paul Ratcliffe won a NCAA title as a member of UCLA's 1990 men's soccer team and was an assistant coach for the UCLA women from 1995-97.

THE SERIES WITH STANFORD
Stanford holds a 16-11-2 advantage over UCLA in the all-time series and has won five straight, the last four by just one goal. UCLA's last win came in 2014, 2-1 in Westwood. Last year's matchup was a tight 3-2 victory by the Cardinal over the Bruins. Catarina Macario tallied two goals for Stanford, while Olivia Athens and Viviana Villacorta scored for UCLA. Bruin goalkeeper Lauren Brzykcy made eight saves in the contest.

SHUTOUT WEEKEND
The Bruins recorded a pair of shutouts last week, blanking Colorado 3-0 and Utah 2-0. UCLA's defense limited the two opponents to a total of nine shots, only three on goal. Lauren Brzykcy earned the shutout against Colorado, while Teagan Micah had the clean sheet against Utah, making three saves. UCLA limited the Buffaloes to a season-low two shots in the game.

PARKER NAMED PAC-12 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF WEEK
After leading UCLA to a pair of shutouts against Colorado and Utah, junior Lucy Parker was selected the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week. In addition to the clean sheets, Parker scored the game-winning goal against the Buffaloes and added an assist on Ashley Sanchez's 84th minute volley. Parker's goal was her first as a Bruin.

FISHEL FOR THREE
Freshman Mia Fishel had a strong weekend, coming off the bench to score three goals in the two Bruin victories. Fishel put in the Bruins' second goal in the 3-0 win over Colorado and then provided all of the scoring in the 2-0 victory over Utah. The San Diego native now leads the Bruins in goals scored with seven and game-winning goals with three. She is also tied with Ashley Sanchez for the team lead in scoring with 16 points.

SANCHEZ SECOND IN CAREER ASSISTS
Junior forward Ashley Sanchez is now in sole possession of second place on UCLA's career assist list with 33. She moved past Sam Mewis and Sarah Killion with an assist on the game-winner against Utah. The Bruins' all-time assist leader is Iris Mora, who recorded 38 from 2002-05.

RODRIGUEZ RETURN
After missing the last 11 games of the season last year with a knee injury, fifth-year senior Anika Rodriguez has made it back to the starting lineup in the Bruins' last three games, all Bruin victories. Rodriguez made her return to competition on Sept. 5 at Santa Clara and earned her first start of the season against Arizona State, playing in a season-high 48 minutes and recording her first point with an assist.

MILESTONES FOR MICAH
It's been quite a 2019 for senior goalkeeper Teagan Micah. After spending the summer with the Australian Women's National Team at the World Cup, Micah returned for her final season in Westwood and hit several major milestones during non-conference play. She earned her 200th career save in the season opening shutout win over Iowa State, recorded her 50th career win in the shutout victory over Florida, and earned her 30th career shutout against Wisconsin. She also won a Pac-12 record eighth Goalkeeper of the Week award on Sept. 3 and was named the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week on Sept. 17 after making a season-high five saves in the shutout win over Wisconsin. Micah, who has five solo and one shared shutout and a 0.72 goals against average, has moved into third on UCLA's all-time saves chart with 221 and is third with 53 career wins. With 31 shutouts, she moved into a tie for third on UCLA's career shutout list.

SWEET 16 FOR SANCHEZ
Ashley Sanchez ran her school record point scoring streak to 16 games after scoring in the first three games of the season. Her streak ran from Sept. 30, 2018 to Aug. 29, 2019, and she totaled nine goals and 16 assists (35 points) during that time. With just over two seasons under her belt, Sanchez already ranks second on UCLA's career list with 33 assists and is just five away from tying Iris Mora's school record of 38. Sanchez leads the team with six assists and is tied for the team lead with 16 points.

MAINSTAYS
Seven Bruin players have started in all 13 games this season - Ashley Sanchez, Kaiya McCullough, Karina Rodriguez, Viviana Villacorta, Lucy Parker, Delanie Sheehan and Marley Canales. McCullough has made 65 consecutive starts, the only game she has not started coming on Oct. 23, 2016 due to illness. Rodriguez has started in 41 consecutive games. Parker started every game at LSU in 2017 and 2018 and has a streak of 55 consecutive starts. She leads the team in minutes played with 1,185.

FRESH FACES
Three Bruin freshmen have cracked the starting lineup this season - forwards Mia Fishel and Kali Trevithick and defender Brianne Riley. Fishel leads the team in goals scored with seven and is tied for the team lead in points with 16. She has recorded a pair of multiple-goal games - at Hawaii and against Utah. Trevithick picked up her first assist in the Bruins' 2-0 win over Florida but has missed the last nine games due to injury. She was a standout in the Bruins' two exhibition games, recording two goals and two assists. Riley earned her first start at left back at Arizona State and played in a season-high 75 minutes. She has played in 11 games, including the last nine consecutive.

UCLA DEBUTS
Six Bruins made their official UCLA debuts in the season opener - junior transfer Lucy Parker, redshirt freshman Shana Flynn, and freshmen Mia Fishel, Kali Trevithick, Rachel Lowe and Brianne Riley. Four more freshmen earned their first collegiate appearances at Hawaii on Sept. 22 - Kylie Kerr, Jackie Gilday, Brecken Mozingo and Janae DeFazio.

IN THE RANKINGS
UCLA has moved up six spots to No. 16 in the United Soccer Coaches poll and one spot to No. 15 in the Top Drawer Soccer rankings. Stanford is No. 2 in the coaches poll and No. 3 in Top Drawer Soccer's poll.

FLEMING SELECTED SENIOR CLASS AWARD FINALIST
UCLA team captain and international star Jessie Fleming has been selected as one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award for women's soccer. The award honors student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. Fleming is a two-time World Cup player and Olympic bronze medalist who has already amassed 69 caps for the Canadian Women's National Team. As a sophomore at UCLA in 2017, she was a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy and earned first-team All-America honors. During her freshman year in 2016, she led UCLA in scoring with 11 goals and 27 points. In 2018, she missed half the season while on Canadian National Team duty yet still recorded five goals and five assists in just 11 games. This season, she has totaled eight points on two goals and four assists. Fleming is a three-time first-team All-Pac-12 honoree and was Top Drawer Soccer's Freshman of the Year in 2016. She was also just the fourth UCLA freshman ever to earn NSCAA All-America honors. Top Drawer Soccer currently rates her No. 2 in the Top 100 Player rankings.

The Bruins' team captain the last three years, Fleming is also a leader in the classroom, earning honor roll distinction four times and honorable mention Pac-12 All-Academic honors twice in one of the most challenging majors on campus – materials engineering (with an environmental science minor). This summer, she earned a 4.0 GPA in her summer courses. Additionally, she is volunteering with a company that collects and redistributes extra produce from farmer's markets.

BRUINS ON MIDSEASON TOP 100
Six Bruins are currently listed on Top Drawer Soccer's midseason Top 100 upperclassman list, including two in the Top 4 - No. 2 Jessie Fleming and No. 4 Ashley Sanchez. Fleming and Sanchez each made the TDS Preseason Best XI first-team. Also rated in the Top 100 are No. 39 Karina Rodriguez, No. 51 Viviana Villacorta, No. 60 Lucy Parker, and No. 72 Delanie Sheehan. Additionally, Mia Fishel ranks No. 15 on the Freshman midseason Top 100.

SUMMER SCHOOL STANDOUTS
A total of five Bruins earned 4.0 GPAs for their 2019 summer courses, which ended in mid-September - senior Chloe Castaneda, junior Jessie Fleming and freshmen Jackie Gilday, Hannah Mitchell and Kali Trevithick.
