Forbes Sweeps All-Bruin Regional Championships

LOS ANGELES โ Five of eight participating members of the UCLA women's tennis team were still in action on the final day of ITA Southwest Regional Championships play Monday, as both of the event's final rounds proved to be all-Bruin affairs.
Freshman Abbey Forbes proved to be the star of the day, as she teamed with a fellow newcomer, junior Annette Goulak, to claim the doubles title and took control down the stretch en route to a 7-6(3), 6-2 win in the singles final versus redshirt senior Jada Hart. Forbes and Goulak beat Abi Altick and Taylor Johnson, 6-3, 6-4, in the doubles final.
Forbes did not drop a set during the tournament and only once surrendered more than three games in a frame, going to a tiebreaker versus Hart. In four of her six matches, the Raleigh, N.C. native recorded a 6-0 second set. Forbes notched wins versus two ranked opponents, No. 9 Hart and No. 34 Salma Ewing of USC.
The tandem of Forbes and Goulak was twice pushed to the brink of elimination during the eight-game pro set portion of the doubles draw, twice needing a tiebreaker to reach the semifinal round. In the end, though, the Bruins proved too strong, notching straight-set victories in the semifinal and final rounds.
While play began at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego on Thursday, it finished at UCLA's Los Angeles Tennis Center.
