
Bruins Lead Tightly-Bunched Field at Erin Hills

ERIN, Wis. - A quartet of golfers shot 1-over 73s on the opening day of the Marquette Intercollegiate, as the Bruins lead a tightly-bunched field after a 4-over 292 on Sunday at Erin Hills Golf Course. UCLA leads Northwestern by two strokes, but just 11 shots separate the entire 12-team field.
Senior Hidetoshi Yoshihara, juniors Devon Bling and Eddy Lai and sophomore Bryan Wiyang Teoh are all tied for ninth following their 73s, with Lai, Teoh and Yoshihara each getting there via three birdies and four bogeys. Lai birdied No. 5, 14 and 18, Yoshihara gained strokes on No. 2, 3 and 14 and Teoh made birdie on the first, eighth and 14th. Bling recorded one birdie on the 14th and two bogeys. Sophomore Sean Maruyama scored a 9-over 81 on one birdie (No. 17), six bogeys and two doubles. Sophomore Rory Feng, playing as an individual, made one birdie (No. 16), seven bogeys, a double and a quad in a 12-over 84.
On Monday, the Bruins tee off the first hole at 9:50 a.m. CT/7:50 a.m. PT in the order of Maruyama, Bling, Lai, Yoshihara and Teoh. Feng starts off the 10th tee at 10:50 a.m. CT/8:50 a.m. PT.
