November 10, 2019 | Swimming & Diving
LOS ANGELES โ Sophomore Veronica Thompson placed fifth in the platform championship on Sunday afternoon as UCLA wrapped up competition at the 2019 Trojan Diving Invitational.
Combined with Ruby Neave's 1M championship on Friday and Neave-Alice Yanovsky placing 4-5 in 3M on Saturday, the Bruins placed at least one diver in the top-five for all three events in the invitational. The host, USC, was the only other program able to achieve that feat.
Thompson was in sixth place after posting a 214.00 in the prelims, then jumped a spot after recording a 217.80 in the finals to notch a combined score of 431.80.
Her finals score represents a new personal collegiate-best on tower. Sunday was the first time that Thompson competed in platform since last year's Trojan Diving Invitational.
The Castaic, Calif. native notched 40 points or more on all 10 of her dives. She scored highest in both rounds on the third dive of her list โ a 107 C (forward 3 ยฝ somersault tuck) โ netting a 48.60 in prelims and 45.90 in the finals.
UCLA swim and dive is next in action at the Ohio State Invitational from Nov. 21-23 in Columbus, Ohio.
