Bruins Fall in Three at Wisconsin in NCAA Second Round

MADISON, Wis. -ย Junior Mac May produced 15 kills and nine digs, but the 24th-ranked Bruins fell in three sets at fifth-ranked Wisconsin on Saturday at the UW Field House in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. Set scores were 25-18, 25-21, 25-14.

Senior Savvy Simo had nine kills and eight digs, junior Jenny Mosser recorded six kills and redshirt freshman Lexi Hadrych added five kills. The Bruins hit .175 behind the setting of sophomore Devon Chang (19 assists) and senior Cali Thompson (11 assists, six digs). Sophomore Kelli Barry added six digs and redshirt sophomore Emily Ryan had three blocks.

The Bruins (19-12) got off to a great start to the match, scoring six of the first nine points on two kills and an ace from May, kills from Hadrych and Mosser and a Wisconsin (24-6) service error. UCLA still led by three as late as 9-6 before the Badgers rallied off the next six and eight of nine to go ahead by four at 14-10. A May kill and an ace from freshman Mari Hinkle cut the deficit to two, but that was as close as UCLA would get for the rest of the set, dropping the opener, 25-18. Simo posted her fourth set in a row in Madison with no hitting errors, recording four kills in 10 attempts, while May also had four kills. The Bruins were out-hit, .429 to .200.

The largest lead for Wisconsin was five, as the final score of the set was 25-21. May posted eight kills and four digs in the second, Mosser added three kills, Thompson notched four digs and Simo had three digs. The Bruins out-hit the Badgers, .371 to .368.
