LOS ANGELES – The UCLA dive team participated in its final regular season competition of 2018-19 on Saturday, as Bruins finished third and fourth in platform diving against USC at Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
Senior Traci Shiver was the Bruins' top finisher on Saturday, taking third place with a score of 243.15. That total represented a new season-high for the Chatsworth, Calif. native, who already qualified for NCAA Zone Championships with her performance at the Georgia Fall Invitational in December.
Shiver notched scores of 50 or higher on three of the five dives in her list. Her highest-scoring dive was her first, a forward 2 ½ somersault 1 twist pike, netting her 52.20 points.
She was followed by UCLA senior Eloise Belanger, the reigning Pac-12 Diver of the Year, who took fourth at 241.20. Like Shiver, she had already qualified for Zones earlier this season, posting a 274.50 at last month's Bruin Diving Invitational.
The Bruins' contingent was rounded out by sixth-place finisher Madeline Russell (211.80) and ninth-place finisher Alice Yanovsky (184.73).
USC's Carly Souza took first place in the competition, posting a score of 272.18.
UCLA swim & dive is next in action at the Pac-12 Championships, held Feb. 27 to Mar. 3 at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
