
Bruins Second, Maruyama Third After Marathon Day at North Ranch

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. - The Bruins were one of six teams to finish both rounds of play on Monday at the Southwestern Invitational, as UCLA is second at 2-under 574. The Bruins shot a 2-under 286 in round one and an even-par 288 in the afternoon and sit five strokes back of USC (-7, 569).
Freshman Sean Maruyama blistered North Ranch Country Club in his second round on Monday and is in third place at 6-under 138, three strokes back of the individual lead. He struggled to a 1-over 73 in the morning on three birdies (No. 15, 4 and 7) and four bogeys. In Maruyama's second round, he was eight shots better and bogey free in a 7-under 65. He made three birdies on his first (back) nine on the 12th, 16th and 18th. The freshman added four more on his second (front) nine on the second, fourth, sixth and seventh.
Sophomore Devon Bling is tied for eighth at 1-under 143. He shot a 3-under 69 in round one, making six birdies on No. 10, 12, 15, 4, 6 and 7 to go with three bogeys. Bling made two more birdies in his second round on the 12th and 5th, adding two bogeys and a double in a 2-over 74.
Sophomore Eddy Lai is tied for 17th (+2, 146) after back-to-back, 1-over 73s. He made three birdies in his first round (No. 10, 15 and 7) and four bogeys, while in round two, he posted three birdies (No. 10, 12 and 9), two bogeys and a double.
Senior Cole Madey is tied for 23rd (+3, 147), shooting a 1-under 71 in the morning on five birdies (No. 10, 13, 15, 16 and 7) and four bogeys. In round two, he posted a birdie on the 16th, three bogeys and a double in a 4-over 76.
Junior Hidetoshi Yoshihara is tied for 32nd (+5, 149). He recorded a 1-over 73 in round one on two birdies (No. 11 and 15) and three bogeys, while posting a 4-over 76 in the afternoon on one birdie (10th), three bogeys and a double.
The third round will begin after the final six groups resume their darkness-halted second rounds at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
