Bruins Finish Second at Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. - Battling down the stretch with their Pac-12 rival on Tuesday, the 12th-ranked Bruins ended up finishing in second place at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes Golf Club. UCLA shot a 5-over 289, matching its total on Monday, to finish at 869 (+17). Stanford won the event by two strokes (+15, 867).
Junior Clare Legaspi and sophomore Patty Tavatanakit tied for the top Bruin finishing spot at a tie for fourth (+3, 216). Legaspi shot an even-par 71 on Tuesday. She made four birdies on No. 4, 9, 10 and 12 and four bogeys. Tavatanakit posted a 2-over 73 in her final round, making a birdie on the 11th and three bogeys.
Junior Mariel Galdiano was the low Bruin on Tuesday, shooting a 1-under 70 to finish in a tie for eighth (+4, 217). She made an eagle on the par-5 16th and five birdies on No. 8, 9, 11, 13 and 17 to go with four bogeys and a double. Senior Beth Wu tied for 16th (+7, 220), shooting a 4-over 75 on one birdie (No. 14), three bogeys and a double. Freshman Phoebe Yue, playing as an individual, tied for 79th (+28, 241) following an 83 (+12). She made one birdie on the 14th, six bogeys, two doubles and a triple. Sophomore Vera Markevich finished in 83rd (+34, 247), shooting an 83 (+12) on Tuesday on three birdies on No. 5, 12 and 15, seven bogeys, a double and two triples.
Next up for UCLA is the Bruin Wave Invitational (Feb. 25-26) at the San Luis Obispo Country Club in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
