Senior Maria Polyakova of the UCLA swimming & diving team has been named the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Mar. 18-24.
Polyakova was named CSCAA Diver of the Year on Saturday after winning the 3-meter diving national championship and finishing runner-up in the 1-meter diving competition at the 2019 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Polyakova became the program's first-ever diver to win an individual NCAA Championship and the first Bruin swimmer/diver to win an individual championship since Annette Salmeen in 1996. Polyakova posted a score of 396.00 in her 3M finals round, less than three points off her school record score. That included an 81.00 on her third attempt. She and teammate Eloise Belanger were the two highest-scoring divers at NCAAs, combining for a program-record 75 points (37 from Polyakova, 38 from Belanger).
This is Polyakova's second UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week award this season and third of her career.
