No. 1 UCLA Nets Two More Top 10 Wins

MIAMI, Fla.ย -- No. 1 UCLA improved to 21-0ย on the year with two more top 10 wins to conclude play at the FIU Surf-N-Turf Invitational on Saturday, Mar. 3. at Lummus Park Beach Courts. The Bruins opened with a 4-1 win over No. 3 Florida State (17-5) in the morning and then posted their 14thย sweep of the year with a 5-0 victory in the afternoon at No. 8 FIU (11-8).
In the win over the Seminoles, seniors Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara put UCLA up 1-0 with a straight-set win on court one over Alainaย Chacon and Madison Fitzpatrick, 21-17, 21-14.
Then seniorย Sarah Sponcilย and junior Lily Justineย made it 2-0 Bruins with a straight-set win on court two over FSU's Sara Putt and Payton Rund, 21-18, 21-16.
Sophomore Lea Monkhouse and junior Savvy Simoย sealed the dual win on court four with a straight-set victory over the Seminoles' Brooke Kuhlmanย and Morgan Chacon, 21-14, 21-19.
Freshman Abby Van Winkle and senior Zana Munoย made it 4-0 with a three-set thriller on court three, defeating FSU's Molly McBain and Payton Caffrey, 21-15, 16-21, 15-13, to improve to 18-0 on the year.
FSU's Macy Jerger and Kate Privettย helped the Seminoles avoid the sweep when they handed freshman Lindsey Sparks and seniorย Izzy Carey their first loss of the season on court five, 21-19, 12-21, 15-12.
In exhibition play, Mac May and Megan Muret defeated FSU's Ali Eager and Avery Poppingaย in straight sets, 21-19, 21-13.

Sophomore Lea Monkhouse and junior Savvy Simo put the Bruins up 2-0 on court four with a straight-set win over FIU's Katie Friesen and Nina Petranovic, 21-10, 21-13.
Seniors Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara improved to 18-1 on the yearย with their 15th-consecutiveย straight-set win on court one that sealed the dual victory for the Bruins, defeating Federicaย Frasca and Magheritaย Bianchin, 21-14, 24-22.
Seniorย Sarah Sponcilย and junior Lily Justineย made it 4-0ย with a straight-set win on court twoย over the Panters' Dorinaย Klinger and Ronjaย Klinger, 21-13, 21-17.
Freshman Abby Van Winkle and senior Zana Munoย completed the sweep, improvingย to 19-0 on the year with another three-set win on court three over FIU's Allison Denney and Erika Zemyla,ย 21-18, 20-22, 15-11.
The Bruins return to action on Wednesday, April 3, when they host a double-header on the Pac-12 Networks. The first match will pit the Bruins against No. 13 Loyola Marymount at 12:00 p.m. PT and then UCLA will take on No. 2 USC at 3:00 p.m. PT at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center.
