LOS ANGELES - Junior Bubba Nickles had two hits, including a solo home run, while senior Taylor Pack also added two hits, but the top-ranked Bruins dropped a 4-3 decision to Oregon on Friday at Easton Stadium.
The Bruins (35-2, 9-1 Pac-12) had six hits as a team, but left seven on base. Freshman Megan Faraimo (12-2) struck out eight in six innings, giving up four runs and six hits. Sophomore Holly Azevedo tossed a scoreless seventh inning, striking out two.
UCLA broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth, as Pack led off with a double to right, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a pinch-hit sacrifice fly by sophomore Malia Quarles.
In the fifth, freshman Kelli Godin was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a bunt single by junior Briana Perez and scored on a single to right by Nickles to extend the lead to 2-0.
Oregon (17-19, 2-8 Pac-12) scored three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to take a two-run lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, Nickles kept the Bruins alive with a solo homer to right-center, her team-best 11th of the season, to cut the deficit to 4-3, but UCLA would come up one run short.
The Bruins are back in action against Oregon on Saturday at 7 p.m. The game will air live on Pac-12 Networks National and Los Angeles.
