CORVALLIS, Ore. -ย Redshirt junior Rachel Garcia and junior Bubba Nickles combined for six hits and five runs batted in on Thursday, while Garcia added six strikeouts in six innings, as the second-ranked Bruins scored eight times in their final three at-bats in an 8-1 victory at Oregon State.

UCLA (38-2, 12-1 Pac-12) had 10 hits from six different players, with Garcia and Nickles each posting three. Garcia improved to 18-0 in the circle, allowing just one run, three hits and two walks in six innings. She had 1-2-3 frames in the second, fourth and sixth innings, striking out a pair in the second. Sophomore Holly Azevedo tossed a 1-2-3 seventh inning to close out the win.

Oregon State (21-16, 3-11 Pac-12) strung together a couple of singles and a stolen base in the first inning to take an early lead.

It remained a 1-0 deficit for the Bruins until the fifth when the visitors scored twice to take the lead. Sophomore Briana Perez reached on an error to open the inning, Nickles singled to left and Garcia doubled to left to bring in Perez to even the score. One out later, redshirt sophomore Aaliyah Jordan walked to load the bases and sophomore Malia Quarles produced a pinch-hit single up the middle to plate Nickles to put the Bruins ahead.

In the sixth, the Bruins scored four times. Freshman Kelli Godin led off with an infield single, Perez reached on a bunt single and Nickles walked to load the bases for Garcia, who singled up the middle to drive in a pair to make it 4-1. A walk to senior Taylor Pack reloaded the bases, with a passed ball scoring Nickles to increase the lead to 5-1. A sacrifice fly to right off the bat of Jordan brought home Garcia to make it 6-1.

One swing in the seventh brought the advantage to 8-1. With one out, Perez was hit by a pitch and she came home on Nickles' 12th homer of the season, a shot to center.

The Bruins play game two of the series on Friday at 5 p.m. The contest will be broadcast on Pac-12 Network Los Angeles.
