Bruins Tied Atop the Leaderboard After Day One at Pac-12s

EUGENE, Ore. - In front after round one on Monday at the Eugene Country Club, the Bruins maintained a share of the lead following 36 holes at the Pac-12 Men's Golf Championship. UCLA, which shot a 2-under 353 in the morning round, improved one shot in the afternoon with a 3-under 352, and was the only team under par in both rounds. The Bruins are at 5-under 705 and tied with Stanford for the tournament lead.
Senior Cole Madey, who was tied for first after the opening round, is in solo third at 6-under 136. He shot a 4-under 67 in the morning, making an eagle on the par-5 sixth, four birdies (No. 4, 8, 13 and 17) and two bogeys. In round two, Madey posted a 2-under 69, making back-to-back birdies on No. 3 and 4, as well as another one on the ninth, adding one bogey.
Senior Patrick Murphy is tied for 10th at 1-under 141. He had a steady even-par 71 in round one, making a birdie on the 17th, one bogey and 16 pars. Murphy recorded a 1-under 70 in his second round on Monday, posting a stretch of four birdies in a row on holes No. 12 through 15. He added another birdie on the sixth to go with four bogeys.
Sophomore Eddy Lai is tied for 12th at even-par 142. He shot a 1-over 72 in the morning, making a birdie and a double bogey. Lai notched a 1-under 70 in the afternoon, making five birdies (No. 3, 6, 9, 13 and 16) and four bogeys.
Junior Hidetoshi Yoshihara and sophomore Devon Bling are tied for 22nd at 1-over 143. Yoshihara tallied 16 pars and two bogeys in an opening-round, 2-over 73. He shot a 1-under 70 in the afternoon, making three birdies on No. 10, 14 and 17 and two bogeys. Bling fired a 1-under 70 in round one on four birdies (No. 6, 13, 14 and 16) and three bogeys. In round two, the sophomore scored a 2-over 73 on three birdies (No. 2, 11 and 16) and five bogeys. Senior Jack Ireland is tied for 63rd (+11, 153). He shot a 3-over 74 in round one on three birdies (No. 1, 13 and 16), three bogeys and a triple. In round two, Ireland shot an 8-over 79 on one birdie (No. 9), seven bogeys and a double.
Tuesday's third round will begin for the Bruins at 11:06 a.m. off the first tee in the order of Ireland, Bling, Yoshihara, Lai, Murphy and Madey.
