LOS ANGELES - Redshirt junior Rachel Garcia, sophomore Malia Quarles and freshman Colleen Sullivan all hit home runs on Saturday, while freshman Megan Faraimo struck out seven in five innings, as the second-ranked Bruins run ruled Utah by a score of 9-1 at Easton Stadium.

The Bruins (42-2, 16-1 Pac-12) had 11 hits from eight different players, as Quarles, senior Brianna Tautalafua and junior Bubba Nickles each posted two-hit contests.

Faraimo improved to 14-2 on the season, scattering one run, five hits and four walks. She fanned a pair in each of her last two innings.

UCLA scored seven times in its first two at-bats. After Nickles led off with a double to left, sophomore Briana Perez singled to center to bring in the game's first run, and when the ball went under the Utah center fielder's glove and all the way to the wall, Perez came home to make it 2-0. Garcia followed with a shot to left-center, her eighth homer of the season, to bring the lead to 3-0. A double to left-center by redshirt sophomore Aaliyah Jordan started another rally, as after a Sullivan ground out, Jordan came home on a Quarles single to center to make it 4-0.

In the second, Perez and Garcia led off with walks. One out later, Perez stole third, and when the throw went down to second to try and get Garcia, it went into center field, as Perez came home to increase the lead to 5-0. Sullivan followed with a walk, and was pinch-run for by senior Danae Blodgett, as both moved up on a ground out by senior Zoe Shaw. Both Garcia and Blodgett then came home on a two-run single to left by Tautalafua to make it 7-0.

Utah (15-31, 4-13 Pac-12) got on the board in the third on a solo home run, but a pair of bombs in the bottom of the fourth for the Bruins brought out the mercy rule. With one out, Sullivan hit her third homer in the last four games and fourth of the season to left to get the lead to 8-1. Quarles then made it back-to-back jacks with a shot to left-center, her third of the season, to make it 9-1.

The Utes had a runner at third with one out in the top of the fifth in an attempt to extend the game, but Faraimo got a pair of strikeouts to clinch the win.

UCLA, which is tied for first place in the Pac-12 following previously undefeated Arizona's first loss of conference action earlier on Saturday, looks for the sweep on Sunday at 12 p.m. Free live audio will be available at UCLABruins.com.
